Description

A.A. Kingston Middle School is located at 54 Lawrence Avenue in the village of Potsdam, New York. Serving approximately 400 students in grades 5 through 8, the school is a cornerstone of the Potsdam Central School District. AAK fosters a close-knit environment where students are encouraged to be compassionate and engaged citizens. Central to the school experience is a robust commitment to social emotional learning. This is headlined by an innovative After-School Mentoring Program. This initiative pairs students who may be facing academic or emotional hurdles with positive role models to engage in both social and academic activities. Furthermore, the school utilizes dedicated Child Study Teams and specialized Home-School programs led by school psychologists and guidance counselors. These teams provide targeted action plans and discussion groups that support the holistic well-being of every child. Beyond emotional support, AAK boasts outstanding middle school programs that cater to diverse interests and high academic standards. The school is home to a prestigious chapter of the National Junior Honor Society and an Art National Honor Society. Students also benefit from high-engagement extracurriculars such as the Lego Robotics team, the Select Choir, and the unique Potsdam's Got Talent showcase. The curriculum is enriched by a focus on developmental responsiveness, featuring grade-level teaching teams that utilize common planning time to integrate interdisciplinary projects. With a low student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 12:1, A.A. Kingston Middle School ensures that each student receives the personalized attention necessary to navigate the critical transitional years of early adolescence. By blending rigorous academics with essential life-skills development, the school successfully prepares its diverse student body for the challenges of high school and beyond while maintaining a safe and inclusive learning atmosphere.
