Rancho Starbuck Intermediate School is a Schools to Watch campus built for both challenge and support through an eight period day and a strong culture of connection. Students take a daily two period ELA block and during FLEX weeks from September to April they gain an extra 38 minute period for targeted intervention or enrichment alongside schoolwide SEL. A signature feature is the three week FLEX cycle, where students are placed into Core Support Intervention classes based on learning target mastery or earn enrichment options like marine biology Breakfast with the Beatles and games and sports, with counselors leading Kindness Campaign lessons at the start of each rotation. Students can choose from a deep elective menu including robotics theatre band jazz band dance advanced computer science journalism and advanced world language and culture, with CTE pathways in robotics dance theatre and journalism. Support includes learning labs math tutorial Trojan Think Tank InfinitYi Power Start and Power Finish tutoring and an Alternative to Suspension program that reduced suspensions.
