Nellie Coffman Middle School

Nellie N. Coffman Middle School builds a connected and academically focused experience with a six period day plus a required advisory zero period four days a week. Advisory begins each morning with student produced On the Paw announcements followed by 180 Days of Awesome SEL lessons and weekly goal setting and organization routines. Students take ELA math social studies science physical education and an elective with strong options across grades including ASB leadership AVID beginning and advanced band yearbook art advanced art dance movement games STEM and STEM 2 plus digital media design computer graphics and Spanish pathways including Spanish 1 and Spanish 1 for Spanish speakers. Targeted support is built in through after school tutoring and dedicated intervention classes. Math Essentials electives focus on fractions integers and algebraic equations developed with the UC Irvine Math Project and reading intervention uses Language Live to build decoding fluency comprehension and writing. Students connect through clubs and intramurals including robotics esports musical theatre university HOSA SkillsUSA young interpreters and GSA.
