Description
Kearns Junior High empowers students through clear learning targets strong supports and engaging course options across grades 6 through 8. Proficiency based grading and PLC teams focus on essential standards using common formative assessments so students can revise and retake to show mastery. Daily essential questions keep lessons focused and AVID trained teachers use WICOR strategies to build writing inquiry collaboration organization and reading. Literacy grows through the University of Utah Reading Clinic and Advisory routines that include SMART goals CLOZE reading dyad reading choral reading and weekly action steps. Students can choose honors English mathematics and Spanish Dual Immersion plus AVID Latinos in Action and College and Career Readiness. Electives expand opportunities with Theatre Creative Writing Advanced Art and Computer Science investigations with an AI course planned. PBIS and the 3.0 Club celebrate effort and achievement while after school tutoring Chromebook checkout and student choice books extend learning.
