Description
Slauson Middle School is a two time National Schools to Watch community built around strong academics, daily advisory, and inclusive supports that help students grow as learners and leaders. Students follow a six period schedule with fifty four minute classes plus a twenty five minute advisory each morning, and core learning in math, science, English language arts, and social studies across grades 6 through 8. Electives expand each year, with quarter exploratory options like art, performing arts, Project Lead the Way, and PE, and world languages that become year long in eighth grade for high school credit, alongside band, orchestra, and choir as full year choices. A data based reading and math intervention class can replace an elective and students can exit each quarter with demonstrated growth. English learners receive tiered supports through priority scheduling, push in co teaching, and SIOP strategies, while inclusive special education services include achievement team meetings, related services collaboration, and flexible supports. Clubs, athletics, Science Olympiad, and a growing robotics program help every student feel connected and proud.
