Description
Piedmont Open Middle School, An IB World School blends International Baccalaureate expectations with a schedule built for both depth and flexibility. Students take daily yearlong core classes in math, ELA, science, and social studies for about sixty minutes each, plus an alternating day encore block of about seventy five minutes with options like art, drama, keyboarding, computer science, Health and PE, and yearlong band, orchestra, and world language. A daily fifty five minute academic enrichment block anchors support and acceleration, providing Learning Lab for students with disabilities, targeted help for multilingual learners, and flexible small group instruction led by facilitators. Students who need extra intervention are placed into a math or reading sixth block class with quarterly roster updates driven by iReady, benchmarks, and teacher feedback. Clubs are embedded in the school day, and students can also join Science Olympiad, MathCounts, Odyssey of the Mind, and athletics. With interdisciplinary IB projects, strong PLC routines, and added courses like computer coding and creative writing, students grow with purpose and pride.
